Infection Sciences

Virology - Molecular remains open 08:00 - 16:00 on 24 December and 25 December 2024, as well as on 1 January 2025. Reduced service will cover the key services on all days.

Covid and RESP will be run every day, including 24 and 25 December 2024. GIMA will be run every day apart from on the 24 and 25 December 2024. ACED will not be run on the 21, 22, 24, 25, 28 or 29 December 2024. 

There will also be a 24/7 on-call biomedical scientist to cover urgent serology+ molecular requests and 24/7 urgent ED respiratory cover.

Serology - Closed from 24 December 2024 and will reopen on 27 December 2024.

Closed on 1 January 2025 and will reopen on 2 January 2025.

Microbiology - Key services will be covered but on a reduced service, plus 24/7 on-call biomedical scientist.

Liver Virology - Closed from 25 December 2024 and will reopen 27 December 2024.

Tissue Sciences (Core Histology, Advanced Diagnostics and Liver Histology)

Serology/Molecular - Sunday service will be provided from 09:00-14:00 on 25 and 26 December 2024. It will also be provided on 1 January 2025. From 14:00 on these days, any urgent samples will be processed by an on-call biomedical scientist.

Microbiology - All bank holidays and weekends covered as weekend service - 08:00- 16:00. From 16:00, an on-call biomedical scientist will be processing urgent samples only.

Blood Sciences

Haematology/BT - 24 hr service provision as per normal weekend service

Biochemistry - 24 hr service provision as per normal weekend service

Tissue Science at RBH (Histopathology / Cytopathology)

Closed on 25 and 26 December 2024. Will reopen on 27 December 2024 with working hours 9:00 to 17:30 with a normal staff rota and normal out of hours provision.

Will be open with working hours 9:00 to 17:30 with a normal staff rota and normal out of hours provision on 30 December and 31 December 2024.

Closed on 1 January 2025. Will reopen on 2 January 2025.

Tissue Typing (HH)

Services will be transferred to Guy's hospital clinic. The usual weekend/bank holiday service will be provided. 

Immunosuppressant Drug Monitoring (HH)

A reduced service will operate on 24, 27, 30 and 31 December 2024.

Closed on 25 December 2024.

An emergency service (10:00-14:00) will run as per usual on 26, 28 and 29 December 2024 and 1 January 2025.

Normal staffing levels will resume on 2 January 2025.

Please note these times only apply to the phlebotomy services run by Synnvois as shown in column headings.

All other times over the bank holiday period will be covered by an on-call biomedical scientist processing urgent samples only.

Outside of bank holidays, the normal weekend/weekend service will operate.

Haematology/BT

There will be 24/7 working across all the weekend and bank holidays for urgent samples, with the usual service available on the working days.

Biochemistry/Immunology

There will be 24/7 working across all the weekend and bank holidays for urgent samples, with the usual service available on the working days.

Histopathology/Cytopathology

This will be closed on 25 and 26 December 2024. It will then reopen on the 27th December 2024.

Other than these days, there will be 24/7 working, with a reduced team working across the bank holidays.

Virology - Business as usual. Core, late and weekend shifts will be covered over the Christmas period with bank holidays running as a weekend service. 

Microbiology - Urgent services will be covered over the Christmas period. Bank holidays will be running as a normal weekend service from 08:00-20:00. Night cover 20:00-08:00 for urgent testing only.

Mycology - Will be closed Monday 23 December 2024 until Thursday 26 December 2024.

Blood Sciences

Haematology & Blood Transfusion - 24 hr service as per normal weekend service

Special Haematology - Urgent sickle screens performed by out of hours haematology staff

Biochemistry - 24 hr service provision as per normal weekend service (STH),  chemistry samples sent to STH for analysis as per normal weekend service with exception of Saturday 28 December 2024, which will be a normal Saturday service (Guy's)

Cancer Centre (Haematology) -  Closed on bank holidays & weekends with samples sent to Guy's lab for testing. Additional opening on Wednesday, 1 January 2025 between 08:00 and 17:00 hrs.
