Description: 
Sample sent to PHE Colindale STBRU referral laboratory for Chlamydia / Chlamydophila serology testing. This test is not useful for the diagnosis of symptomatic genital infections but may assist in the diagnoses of atypical pneumonias or reactive arthritides. Please discuss with the laboratory and provide full clinical details. Acute and convalescent serology are required. This assay is available routinely Mon to Fri.
Clinical details: 
Chlamydia and Chlamydophila sp cause a diverse range of infections in Humans; Chlamydophila (formerly Chlamydia) pneumoniae and less often Chlamydophila (formerly Chlamydia) psittaci are recognised causes of atypical pneumonia. Acute and convalescent serology may be helpful in determining the aetiology of a reactive arthritis or an atypical pneumonia.

Storage and transport: 
Place labelled sample in a sealed sample bag and send to Central Specimen Reception (CSR). To prevent sample haemolysis please store samples in refrigerator if a delay in sending samples to CSR is unavoidable.
