The detection of autoantibodies against phospholipase A2 receptor (PLA2R) is useful in the diagnosis of primary membranous glomerulonephritis (MGN). MGN is a chronic inflammatory disease of the renal glomeruli and is accompanied by a progressive reduction in kidney function.
