Description:
The vacuolated lymphocytes test is used as a screen for certain metabolic storage disorders, such as Pompe's disease, Wolman's disease and Niemann-Pick disease. The primary screen, which takes up to 2 weeks to complete is performed by light microscopy; a confirmatory screen may be required, which takes up to 4 weeks to complete and is performed by electron microscopy within Great Ormond Street Histopathology department.
