Virology at Blackfriars Hub

The Synnovis Virology Hub delivers a full specialist virology service, including high‑throughput molecular diagnostics, viral load testing, sequencing, genotyping, and antiviral resistance analysis. The Hub supports rapid detection of acute viral infections, monitoring of chronic viral diseases, and advanced molecular characterisation of clinically significant viruses.

Using a broad range of molecular and sequencing platforms, the Hub provides specialist testing for HIV, hepatitis viruses, respiratory viruses, and emerging pathogens. Expert virology scientists offer clinical interpretation, advice, and support for complex cases, ensuring timely results and optimal patient management across all ESL sites.

The department is a UKAS‑accredited medical laboratory (No. 8640), accredited to ISO 15189:2022 for the tests and sites listed in the schedule of accreditation available on the UKAS website.
