Virology Laboratory at St Thomas' Hospital

Laboratory Overview

There is no on-site Virology laboratory at St Thomas’ Hospital. Limited rapid molecular testing is supported locally using the Cepheid GeneXpert system, which is based within the Blood Sciences laboratories and operated by Blood Sciences staff. This provides qualitative detection of selected respiratory viruses. All other virology investigations are processed in the central Infection sciences Hub
