Have you got your wig on?

Wednesday, 20 May, 2015

Today, Viapath employees are using their heads to raise money for CLIC Sargent, the charity for children and young people with cancer.

As part of the cancer awareness week we have been running, Viapath have chosen to support CLIC Sargent’s Wig Wednesday campaign to help make a difference to young people and their families who have been affected by cancer.

A difficult time

Many of us have or know someone who has been directly affected by cancer. It is a life-changing experience for the patient to be told they have this devastating disease, but also places an incredible strain emotionally and often financially on their families.

CLIC Sargent are the UK’s leading charity for children and young people with cancer, providing clinical, practical, financial and emotional support to help them cope with cancer and to get the most out of life.

From diagnosis onwards, CLIC Sargent aim to help the whole family to deal with the impact of cancer and its treatment, life after treatment and, in too many tragic cases, bereavement.

Doing our part

We are all too familiar at Viapath of the devastation that this disease can cause. We help to diagnose thousands of patients every year, assisting doctors to make the best clinical decisions possible to aid patient recovery.

We often take part in fundraisers, drawing on the generosity of our people to raise much needed funds to support good causes such as this.

Our cancer awareness week continues tomorrow and Friday where we explain the process of diagnosing solid tumour cancers and the benefits of the new state of the art Cancer Centre at Guy’s Hospital, set to become a regional centre of excellence in cancer care. Stay tuned!

Getting our wigs on

Our people have been fully briefed to get involved in the Wig Wednesday campaign today! Official wigs have been purchased and distributed to each of our four hospital sites and our corporate office, with instructions to take selfies, donate money and organise events to raise money for this charity.

There are bake sales and wig competitions taking place all over our organisation, be sure to keep an eye on our Twitter page to see selfies from our people throughout the day as they vie to win our prizes for the best selfies!
